Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment aimed at increasing resilience and building a life worth living. It emphasizes finding the balance between accepting reality as it is, and changing unwanted behaviors, emotions, thoughts and events. This is an ongoing class for adults that begins a new cycle periodically. There are approximately 5 to 9 members in each class.
There are 4 main skill modules of DBT:
1. Mindfulness – non-judgmentally observe and experience the present.
2. Distress Tolerance – tolerate and survive crisis situations.
3. Emotion Regulation – manage emotions more effectively through better understanding, reducing the intensity of painful emotions, and reducing vulnerability to extreme emotions.
4. Interpersonal Effectiveness – manage interpersonal conflicts effectively and improve relationships.
The skills class follows the Linehan Standard Adult Skills Training schedule, which typically lasts 24 weeks. The current cycle will cover weeks 9-16 (Mindfulness and Emotion Regulation) and last 8 weeks total. The class will break and resume in the late fall with new leaders to cover the final module.
Members are welcome to enter and exit the class during any of the Orientation/Mindfulness weeks.
The class will be led by Beth Wecksell, PsyD and Anne Gallenstein, PMHNP-BC.

The agreements of participation are the following:
1. Participants support each other by maintaining confidentiality, validating each other, avoiding judgment, giving noncritical feedback when asked, and being willing to accept help after asking.
2. Participants arrive on time and stay until the end. If running late or missing a session, e-mail the leaders ahead of time (see contact info above).
3. Participants do not tempt others to engage in problem behaviors, such as self-harm or substance use.
4. Participants do not form confidential relationships outside of the class.
Socializing is encouraged as long as it can be discussed in the class.
Billing Information and Cost:
The cost is $125 per class. We recommend committing to the full 8 sessions of the class, but sessions will be charged on a weekly basis only. As with all appointments at Mind Body Seven, there is a 48-hour cancellation policy in which the full fee is charged if cancelling with less than 48 hours’ notice.
Signing up for the class involves accepting the cancellation policy. In the case of several participants cancelling for a given week, the class may be cancelled that week. We are happy to bill your insurance for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits, just as we do for individual therapy appointments.
Lastly, the required book for the class is:
DBT Skills Training: Handouts and Worksheets © 2015 by Marsha M. Linehan
It is currently listed on Amazon Prime for approximately $36. It is recommended to purchase the hard copy version of this book prior to the first class. However, if you join, the team leaders will also provide you with a digital version of this book at no cost.
If you are interested in joining the class, it is recommended to e-mail the office, at info@mindbody7.com and the class leaders, Beth Wecksell (Beth@mindbody7.com) and Anne Gallenstein (Anne@mindbody7.com), to begin the intake process.
A registration form must be submitted electronically via IntakeQ by July 28th, 2021 to ensure your spot in the class. Please email as instructed above to obtain this form.
We look forward to sharing this class with you. Thank you!
Warmly,
